If you think that paying over £1000 for a whole mast or £350 for a top section ........you must be joking, when the whole section is the same throughout, all it needs is to cut a piece from a straight undamaged section.Who said anything about bodging

The forces on a Hobie 16 mast are huge. How do you expect to be able to join the two sections togther?

Any join above the hounds is going to take a serious
amount of strain.
a sixteen mast loads up with lots of bend, and with no
spreaders or diamonds is designed to 'bounce'
particularly with low rig tension in high winds.
I think you are going to struggle to effect a repair that
isnt really heavy and involve a lot of sleeving and hefty
rivets.
remember, extra weight up top, is a loy worse than
weight below, due to the huge leverage.
this will work to your disadvantage keeping the boat
upright side to side, but more importantly will make the
boat more prone to pitchpole in any chop, as t he boat
slows and the additional mast weight carries you over.

If you are qwith the right insurance company, you will be
able to get a replacement.

Hobie used to supply a 2 piece mast for the 16 !
So it's not unusual.

Sorry not to reply to your emails, have been away on hols. The message I was trying to get across was that it is quite easy replacing the top section because I have a two piece mast and all it requires is to cut the mast section at the right angle.... what is all the fuss about..
Any way back to the point, has any one got a damaged mast for sale
