Hobie 16 and Dragoon TT at Newhaven and Seaford 24th-25th May

Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club invited the Hobie fleet to join the in their Cat Open as part of the traveller's series. The fleet was somewhat depleted by a lot of the youth sailor's commitments to GCSEs but exciting racing was enjoyed by both fleets and thanks to the club for making us welcome. As the area was celebrating two hundred years of the local Lifeboat there was plenty of other activities on the surrounding water for competitors and supporters alike. The Saturday started in a sunny force 3 and Simon Kearns and Ben Burns showed their continued winning ways in the first race but later in the day the locals were able to show local knowledge of the tides around the harbour mouth were as important as pure boat speed .In the Dragoons San Newton and Nick Tayler continued to do well following their excellent result at Eurocat at Carnac but didn't have it all their own way after an exciting finish allowed Hannah Rowles an Stephanie Wall victory in the second race. Sunday provided more wind with fantastic twin wiring conditions most of the time and going in to the last race first place for the 16 was closely contested between Kearns and Burns and the Bens Mansfield and Hinks with third place also keenly fought for between Drew and Chris Tayler and Tom Phipps and |John Cook . In the end tricky lay line calls ended up with the results as shown. Newwton aand Tayler got a couple more first inn the dragoons but after being over the line the could not catch the Girls Rowles and Wall despite chasing hard
