Hi,

Please could someone tell me why I would need to adjust the mast rake (if ever) and how tight the shouds should be for different wind conditions.

thanks a lot for your help.

on which boat?

Rake mast back in stronger winds/lighter crew weight.shrouds depend on the boat.

Sorry Ben, it's actually a hobie 16. I'm 85kg, my mate is about 70, so we're quite heavy.

For your crew weight put the shrouds on hole 3 or 4 from the bottom. When its light pull as much jib halyard tension as you can then as it gets windier ease the jib tension off inch by inch so you can go upwind in the lulls with the main block to block. If you feel underpowered pull and inch on and if your overpowered all the time ease it off an inch. Also pull the downhaul on and move the jib travellers out as it gets windier.

Hi Dave,

If still needed I can help in French Translation but I found this tuning Guide fairly poor.

Surely something of better quality should exist somewhere ?

I do long distance race on HC 16 SPI and enjoy it, I'm 83 kg and crew is 53.

Bye,

Antoine
